AI and the Future of Cybersecurity

AUT associate professor in computer and information sciences and our centre co-director Kenneth Johnson appeared on TVNZ's One News recently to discuss the National Cyber Security Centre's 2026 Cyber Threat Report.

He said businesses have to learn to embrace AI while also being aware of the risks that it poses. AI agents can now find the most effective way to access IT systems and will use any tool at their disposal to hack data. Therefore, it was important to use multi-factor authentication and also take old legacy IT systems offline. Johnson was also interviewed by Newsroom on the cyber report, which you can read on newsroom.co.nz.
